[Action; outside 2237 Stevens Road]

[The perfect beginning to summer vacation is getting a package in the mail from home.  Yuna eagerly tears into it, wondering what they sent her this time.  Getting her pactio card back before was pretty great, but now she's starting to miss some of her everyday effects, like her basketball uniform and all the junk she buys from the home shopping channels.  Unfortunately, that's not what Mayfield had in mind this time, but at least it's nothing bad either.  Inside the box, there's simply a piece of paper with a few words on Latin written on it.]

Huh... so this is what they sent this time, huh?  Well, might as well give it a shot!

[Yuna smiles a little, posing dramatically with one arm stretched out above her head as she calls out the incantation in Latin.]

Practe Bigi Nar: Ardescat!

[And... nothing.]

...Well, that's weird.  Maybe I still need a starter wand?

[Phone; filtered from drones]

Hey!  Are there any mages in town?  I think I just got some spells back from home, but it looks like I can't use them without a wand.  Some wizards make their own, right?  Does anybody know anything about that?  I've never really done it before, so if anybody could help me out, I'd really appreciate it!

[Yuna trots on in, stopping by the door to take her shoes off before walking inside.]

Well, like I said, I just started, but it was easy enough to remember the words mom taught me when I was little and the spell worked right away. So I guess I've got some natural talent for it, or it probably would've been harder.

I see. Having a natural talent would make things easier. Good, then I won't need to give any any accessories to help you with your amplification. This way.

[And he's going to take her to his current study room where pretty much it has all sorts of books, written down reports, certain spell incantations and notes all over the place. And two chairs, one at the desk in the study and one just next to the wall. He'll point to the one at the wall for her.]

Alright then. Tell me about your family and your school. Certain families have a certain synchronization to different types of magic... think of it as a family specialty. Using fire magic is the preferred choice or summoning lightning with a snap of the finger or... perhaps a history of using teleportation magic. Anything involving your family history that you know of would help me know how to teach you with what you may learn faster.

As for the school, specifically what specific magic you wish to learn and what do they offer.

[Yuna blinks vacantly through most of that explanation, spending more time looking around the room and marveling at all of the collected tomes and whatnot. She was listening, though, and eventually takes her seat.]

Well... my school back home is just a normal Japanese high school. It's not for training mages or anything like that. My parents just happened to know magic. Dad works at the school, but he just teaches history classes and stuff like that. Mom... passed away when I was little.

[Pausing there just for a second before continuing.]

So I don't really know what kind of magic they did. I was really little when mom was teaching me, and then I guess dad must have decided it was better to keep me out of all that. I didn't really get back into magic until Negi-sensei showed up. He was trying to keep it a secret too, but too many of us found out and then we ended up following him to the Magic World to look for his missing dad.

[Yuna pauses again to tap her chin, thinking about the rest.]

Like I said before, I only really know beginner's stuff, like making the tip of a wand glow or summoning a small fire or a breeze. I guess it'd be pretty cool to be able to shoot lightning around like Negi-sensei, though!

[She grins a little, miming dramatic hand gestures as if she's pretending to be firing bolts of electricity around the room.]

So you are a literally a beginner. It's been quite some time since I've worked with a starting magic user of any kind, but you'll have to show me that you are dedicated and willing to work hard, study and train yourself to be a proper mage, magician, wizard, witch, warlock or whatever magic class you choose.

Given from the sounds of it, you are interested in being a mage and a summoner. While it is not my specific expertise, a magician is a wild card and jack of all trades... so I will teach you what I know and after that, you are free to go beyond further than that and master your skills. I will teach you what magic I know and what other kinds you can learn and it will be up to you to use them as you wish.

Do you find this acceptable? If so, then you will become my apprentice until you are ready to be a full-fledged caster. If you have any problems, there are other magi out there in this town that might assist you as well. Either way, the choice is yours and I will not mind whichever you make.

Well, you're the only offer I've had so far, so that sounds okay to me! What's the first lesson?

Date: 2011-06-09 12:23 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] gottimedout.livejournal.com
Our first lesson would be discovering what kinds of spell casting would be fundamentally easier for you. I, myself, do not use a wand but I did wear accessories such as armlets, a headgear, and an amulet when I began. I will need you to go find various kinds of easy to carry and wear items and see what would be suited for you to wear or keep on you at all times and I will apply my magic into them for you to get started.

After that, our real studies begin.

So I'm gonna dress up like an RPG character?

...Okay, I guess I can handle that.

If that's as many as you like to wear, then by all means. For you, I would have figured a simple ring or a necklace would do.

[Aaaaand he's going to motion with his hand for her to get going then. Better find a good, sturdy stick for that wand of yours.]

Oh. Lesson over? Okay, see you soon, then!

[Yuna smiles and springs to her feet, tossing off a casual wink and salute before showing herself to the door.]

Far from over. We are simply starting with the first step, preparation.

[Oh. Well, she's just gets a simple nod from him. Really, he's the brightest source of emotions.]

I'll be back after I get someone to buy me a ring, then!

I'll be waiting here.

Thanks again! Bye!

[Kicking her shoe against the ground to make sure it's on, and then running out the door!]
